President Ruth Allen convened the meeting at 12:40. The Minutes and Agenda were accepted.

RA and DC discussed the upcoming SOS ByLaws vote and future ByLaws changes. The ByLaws have been revised to incorporate Lecturers into our Faculty Assembly structure (without vote). Ballots will be distributed to the faculty and are due to the Acting Secretary, FWK, by May 7, 2003. Further changes will be proposed and voted on next year.

Deans Report: DS reported on the state of the budget. It will be difficult to make any increases in our tenure track faculty size. Lecturers are being hired and their contribution to our teaching program should allow our research programs to stay on track.

The plan by the Library to begin charging for student printing was discussed.

BDNR discussed the revisions to the Promotion and Tenure document that have been made to address the issue of Lecturers and Senior Lecturers.

The issue of a combined school of Science and Liberal Arts was discussed at some length. CD proposed a committee to explore the issue but this proposal was rejected. DS was not enthusiastic about a combined school, considering it both unwieldy and risky. Rather, we should collaborate where it is mutually beneficial. This collaboration does not require a merger. DS felt that some previous efforts at 'merged' activities such as the combined Fall Convocation had been unsuccessful.
